selamat pagii... You know I do start every blog post with that, although today i can say for sure that it actually DOES apply as it's.. uh.. 11.. am.. now.. god it was 9 just a second ago!??!

( ; ω ; ) Well. Whatever. Whatever. I don't even care.

 

This is sorttt of a continuation of my last post? I wanted to talk about my Pokémon Mystery Dungeon OCs we discussed last time (Yunoa and Renka). I almost told my therapist about them.. but we never would've gotten off of that subject. I promise you..

I've been hyperfixating on PMD for.. LIKE.. THE PAST FEW WEEKS.. I think it may be my favorite game ever, and I can't wait to play it some more.. I cried so much over the ending, it was so emotionally devastating! Anyway.. let's see.. let's see.. Let's talk about Renka and Yunoa...

 

so in Team Vulpes, Renka is the player-character and therefore our amnesiac Fennekin protagonist. She's kind of full of herself and confident to a fault -- at the very beginning she's actually somewhat irritated with Yunoa. Because, no, I don't want to join a guild with you, I want to know why I'm a Pokémon... Because the both of them are, like.. 14-15 mentally (this is true for Renka even when she was a human), their guild often does not take them seriously and especially not Renka when she begins to experience visions of the past & future, which irritates her so much. She holds a lot of animosity toward the guild for this reason when just starting out.

As well as the past-&-future visions, Renka discovers some time on that when she dies, she.. loops back in time. (´-ω-`)
In-game, this is a minor inconvenience that sends me back to the last save point.. but to Renka, this is a traumatic ordeal. She's sent back to either the moment she woke up that morning, or in front of a Kangaskhan statue OR a well. These landmarks are things that I've decided Pokémon pray to, typically for safe passage.. so there must be more to them if Renka goes back every death-loop to the last time she prayed at one of them!!! Because dungeons are randomly generated, constantly shifting enigmas, she can't even really use this to her advantage!! All she can really do is think 'I need to be careful'.. You would think this is a rather low-stakes situation if she can simply revive, but then the world is in danger of being put into a perpetual paralysis, and then you're also a teenager and death is not a particularly nice thing to experience over and over again.. ALSO, it doesn't account for OTHERS dying, like guild members or Yunoa. so.. much to consider.

In Renka's human life, I had been thinking that she comes from .. Legends: Arceus adjacent time period.. so, early Meiji period... In her village, people are very put off by Delphox and all other forms of it due to the appearance being so similar to a witch + the psychic powers used when those Pokémon are threatened. Like, I saw a witch in the woods and it gave me a FUCKING headache so bad I was throwing up for days. THAT'S EVIL!!!!  .. and so, this line was usually quite literally witch-hunted and taken within the village to be sacrificed or publicly culled etc. Which actually parallels with Yunoa...

 

YUNOA!!!!!!! I love you, Yunoa..  above are two different forms.

Yunoa is our 'partner' character.. a Hisuian Zorua, a sweet kid and the co-founder of Team Vulpes. She's often very flighty and anxious, somewhat shy... but in a very high-energy sense. She's very hypervigilant, but despite being so much of a shut-in, she's super passionate and also dead-set on becoming an explorer.. it's somewhat ironic, because she does have an unexplained deep fear of other Pokémon. Even going into Treature Town with Renka is a whole affair for her, and she often privately celebrates when social plans are cancelled (lolol).

She considers Renka her best friend (and not long later, it's mutual), and doesn't like to go anywhere without her. They'll usually snuggle together through the night, and as they grow closer they'll say/do the same thing at once, and then get flustered… They even catch colds at the same time. ( ‾́ ◡ ‾́ ) Because this puts them effectively out of commission, Chatot scolds them for this no matter what because he's like ‘MAYBE IF YOU WOULDN’T CUDDLE THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN!!!' It's because of Renka that Yunoa eventually becomes a lot more outspoken and brave.. she's always still a little bit of an anxious girl, but she does, by the end of the game, become uncharacteristically confident and less afraid. She's sort of eccentric and, even after just meeting Renka, thinks things like 'Do you believe in fate? I think we were meant to be together...'. (maybe they were...?). Of course, poor Renka is like 'What the fuck are you talking about' during her first weeks in the Pokémon world. Yunoa is.. in conclusion.. a clumsy and awkward sweetiepie. But not without her (insane) strengths!! There's a leveling issue in the romhack I'm playing, so Yunoa is an obscenely powerful special attacker, despite being half-dead and physically very weak. She's accidentally hit Renka in-game like, two times, both of them ending in.. instant OHKO!!!!!!

 

BUT, LISTEN.. the dex entry for Hisui Zorua.. how does that play into this..? (；￣Д￣)
well.. it's a secret.. maybe you'll find out later...?

 

uhrr what else. somehow we decided Bidoof is transfem so my Bidoof is transfem and also VERY good friends with Renka and Yunoa.. practically an honorary member of the team, that one!!! On top of that, Sunflora and Chimecho are sort of like older siblings to the three of them. There also isn't really a Grovyle here.. oops..

world-building wise, I did really wanna base this world more off of Made in Abyss.. like, the idea that the dungeons are this far more sinister and dangerous thing.. a perpetually shifting and practically living and breathing system of oddities.. (〃￣ω￣〃ゞ that's pretty cool. I think there would be issues with staying in the dungeons too long (there already is a horrifying mechanic that kills you if you stay inside too long), similarly to how there's a curse in the Abyss if you try to ascend the lower you get. That would be the purpose of explorer badges!! You're getting warped outta there because if you walk all the way back up your body will just start undergoing horrific changes!

My guild and Treasure Town would also be a lot bigger, a lot more extensive.. lots of new people to meet... ヾ( ￣O￣)ツ I wanna write about the culture and religion a lot more.. It's exciting to think about. Maybe it's because of the medication, but my imagination has been lacking lately. So, it's like.. a little hard to imagine it.. o(TヘTo) That's disappointing, but I want to still make things no matter what. But, it's hard to sit down and just think about my OCs.. Or how to start a story.. I definitely think it must be because of my ADHD meds HAHA, but I can't live without 'em! So I'll keep fighting..

 

Yunoa and Renka are really special to me.. like, they're starting to get onto the level of comfy, well-loved stuffed animals to me. I wanna carry them around in my arms.. If I was rich, I'd totally commission plushes of them, with just the right amount of stuffing so they flop around in my arms.
They're bound by fate, but also by things like circumstance, persecution, past lives.. shiny vulpine?

but yeah. I think that's all I have to say about my girls, for the time being..  Isn't life so lovely?

 

٩(｡•ω•｡)و I promise I'm brainstorming a better GUI for my special little text box. I really am. BUT!!! It's still naked. So. I hope you won't mind. Next time I'll make it bigger.. I can't imagine it's very easy to use now at this size if you have lots to say..
